Meghwal Clutch
$145
The beautiful Meghwal Clutch is made of brightly-colored antique hand-embroidered cotton and silk textiles with rupee coins, tribal jewelry pieces and mirror embellishments. The Meghwal people live in Northwest India and Pakistan and are renowned for their exuberantly detailed costumes and jewelry: they were classified as 'untouchables' in Hindu society and turned to traditional weaving occupations. Today, the Megh women's embroidery is avidly sought after, and their work is distinguished by their primary use of red, which comes from a local pigment produced with crushed insects. Due to their fabulous origin, each clutch is truly unique.
